A Ring-type joint flange (RTJ) is a machined metallic ring with a deep groove that removes its face. This groove rests a metal ring that gets compressed when the connecting bolts of the flange are tightened. This compression leads to a leak-proof, close-fitting seal on the pipe or connection.

A Ring Type of Joint Flanges is a sort of flange that uses a metal ring that sits during a hexagonal groove as a gasket to seal the flange pair. The Ring Type Joint flange seal when the bolt is tightened and therefore the gasket is compressed into the groove making a metal seal. RTJ Flanges are used for high-pressure applications up to pressures as high as 15,000 psi (103 MPa).

The benefits of using an RTJ Flange and ring are that the gasket is confined to a groove and has two sealing surfaces. The groove assures that the ring centers itself when the bolts are tightened. It is also self-actuating meaning that the sealing pressure increases when the method pressure increases. Our qualified inspection engineer performed inspection on Ring Type Joint Flanges based on reference standards of ASME B31.1, B31.3, B16.5, ASME II , V , VIII , IX , DIN, AS/NZ standards etc. A visual test performed to identify surface porosity, cracks, and open structure defects. A dimensional inspection performed to confirm that the different types of flange, in this case its Ring Type Joint Flange, Octagonal RTJ Flange, Oval RTJ Flange, etc. are manufactured according to the ASME Specification, that specifies the dimensions and indicates the design tolerances. A tensile test is conducted to test the yield strength, the tensile strength, and the elongation restrictions.
