Beginners Guide: Forged Fittings and its Types

Beginners Guide: Forged Fittings and its Types

What is Forged Fittings?

Forged steel fittings are actually a pipe fitting that are in fact made from a forged carbon steel, stainless steel, high nickel alloys material. And so, forging steel is a process that produces very strong fittings. However, carbon steel is heated to melting temperature and placed in the dies. The heated steel is then processed into forged steel fittings.

Features of Forged Fittings

Forged Fittings assures the industrial piping systems of a smooth run of liquid. They are made up of by using high-quality steel forgings, and thus they are very much high in performance and durability. These fittings sufficiently carry out those industrial requirements that demand extremely durable, qualitative, and reliable products.

Types of Forged Fittings

They usually come in two different forms – Forged Threaded Fittings and Forged Socket Weld Fittings. And further, these are sub-categorised divided into different types such as Elbow, Tee, Union, Cross, Coupling, Cap, Bush, and Plug.

Elbow Fittings

It is a type of fitting that is being mounted in between the two pipe or tube lengths for to allow the change in the route of a flow. And this picky change in the flow is usually being performed in either 90 Degree or 45 Degree route.

Tee Fittings

Comes in different forms such as Equal Tee, Unequal Tee, Reducer Tee and Lateral Tee, these Forged Tee Fittings are in fact a type of pipe fittings that has some T-shaped with two open outlets on it. And these outlets are usually at a 90 deg point for to connect the tangible main pipe line.

Cross Fittings

It is designed to provide a four way flow which navigates the fluids to a different direction. However, it is exclusively designed for several piping applications of various industries such as steel factories, chemical industries, petrochemical industry, fire protection systems, etc.

Coupling Fittings

Comes in different types such as Full Coupling and Half Coupling, these Forged Coupling Fittings are carefully tested and it makes sure to provide one of the supreme standard quality with presence of a sturdy circumstances.

Cap Fittings

Cap Fittings are usually hot dip stirred for mounting its service life. The different range of such fittings is widely used in liquid doling out industries due to their features of superlative permanence, first-rate corrosion resistant and high performance.

Bushing Fittings

Bushing pipe fitting is made up of by brass material and has a male National Pipe Taper (NPT) threaded connection and also a female National Pipe Taper (NPT) threaded connection. This fitting joins two pipes by means of different diameters allied to it, and has a hexagonal head for a big bearing facade when fixing with the fitting through a tug.

Union Fittings

Union is accessible in varied sizes that ranges from 1/4″ NB to 4″ NB. And such range of unions is exceptionally long-lasting, resistant to corrosion and offers high end functionality.

Plug Fittings

Plugs are at length used in varied application in different industries such as petrochemical, oil refineries, cement industry, chemical processing, and so on. They are relatively easy to install the pipe plugs for the separation of piping systems through testing, maintenance or repairing of the dented pipe lines. On the other side Forged Plugs are accessible in all kinds of Threaded Plug such as Bull, Round Head, Hex Head, Square Head, and so on.

Forged Pipe Fittings Applications and Size Ranges

Threaded Pipe Fittings are widely used in a lot of sectors of gas production and petrochemical industries. Other industries where such fittings can be used are in making pharmaceutical varieties of making equipment, vessels, oil refinery equipment, and so on. The typical applications for socket weld fittings are: Explosive fluids and gases, Long service / durable installations, Steam, Acids and toxic fluids.

These forged fittings are available in different sizes and pressure class. For instance, the size range of the 45 degree elbow and 90 degree elbow is 1/2” to 4”, and the pressure classes of the product ranges in 3000lbs, 6000lbs and 9000 lbs. Meanwhile, these fittings are designated as Class 2000, 3000, and 6000 for forged threaded fittings and Class 3000, 6000, and 9000 for forged socket-weld fittings.

Pipe Nipple Manufacturer

Pipe Nipple:

Pipe nipple is short segment of steel pipe made of different materials (eg. Stainless Steel, High Nickel Alloys) mostly with male or external threads in one end or both ends for connecting two fittings or pipes, which are used to make a watertight seal when connecting piping to threaded fittings, valves or equipment. Threads used on nipples are BSP, BSPT, NPT, NPSM and Metric.

Same or different types of thread may be used when Nipples has two side threads such as NPT thread to BSP Thread nipples are also available. there is a short distance of unthreaded steel pipe between two sides of threads. where there is no long unthreaded pipe betweend two end of nipple threads it is called as ‘running nipple’ or ‘close nipple’. Pipe nipples are in lengths up to 12”, lengths over 12” are referred to as ready cut pipe the thread specifications are identical however the tolerance on the length is less stringent on ready cut pipe. We are leading exporters of Black Pipe Nipple, Galvanized Pipe Nipples, Seamless pipe nipples, Stainless steel pipe nipples, Brass pipe nipples, King Nipples, and Aluminum Pipe Nipples in varied countries such as Egypt, Turkey, Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Syria, Jordan, United Arab Emirates, Israel, Lebanon, Palestine, Oman, Kuwait, Qatar, and Bahrain.

Pipe Nipple Fittings Types:

Barrel Pipe Nipple:

The Pipe Nipple is also known as Barrel Nipples. Barrel Nipples are a piece of steel pipe that has NPT threads on both sides with an unthreaded section in the middle as shown in the image gallery. It is also referred to as T.B.E which stands for ‘Threaded Both Ends’. When we are considering the length of Barrel Nipples, the length is specified by the overall length including threads on each side.

Barrel Nipples or Pipe Nipples are used to connect pipes or other fittings in the same diameters. As we previously discussed that it is simple pipe nipples so it can be simply made from a piece of steel pipes of different materials and grades.

Close Pipe Nipple:

The close nipple is also referred to as the Running Nipple, this type of pipe nipple has no unthreaded area in between both side threads on the pipe nipples, depending on how far apart you need the attached fittings to be.

Connected Fittings or pipes come close to touching one another and a very small area of the nipple is visible, it is called a close or running nipple. Close nipples are ordered by the close diameter for example 1/4″ x close.

Close Nipples are difficult to work with as compared to other types of nipples. Close nipples are unscrewed by gripping one end of the thread with the help of a pipe wrench which might damage the threads in the nipples, but this will damage the thread and cause leakage and necessitate replacing it. to solve this issue we can use ‘nipple wrench’ or ‘internal pipe wrench’ which grips the inside of the pipe, leaving threads undamaged.

Hex Pipe Nipple:

A hex pipe nipple gets its name from the hexagonal shape in the middle section of a nipple. To unscrewed nipple’s hexagonal shape allows for a wrench to grasp it securely without damaging the threads, as it provides a greater mechanical advantage than normally rounded shape nipples. if you find hex nipples with different sizes on each end, it is called an unequal or reducer nipple.

If more distance between the threaded ends of nipples then it is referred to as ‘long hexagonal nipples’. This hexagonal part is useful for a wrench to grasp when needing torque, loose, or tightening.

Hose Nipple:

Pipe Nipple has one special type of Nipple called ‘hose nipple’ that is used to connect smooth hose and threaded pipes. One end of the nipple is a hose barb and the other end is an external thread. The size of the hose barb can be reduced as the size of the pipe connection, or it can be the same. hose nipple is used to connect the piping system to tubing.

Branch Connection Fittings:

Branch Connection Fitting is also named as Outlet fittings. Olets are a family of forged products used to make 90 degree or 45 degrees integrally reinforced branch connections from a header pipe or run pipe to an outlet pipe or branch pipe. Olet fittings have some outstanding advantages such as low cost, reliability and safety, standardization, simple construction, convenient design selection, and improved media flow channels. Outlets come with threaded, socket-weld, and butt-weld end connections. Branch fittings are available in all dimensions, bores, types (i.e. Weldolet, Nipolet, Sockolet, Threadolet, Elbolet), sizes, and classes, in a wide range of stainless steel, chrome-moly, and other alloys.

To place an outlet instead of the tee, A hole is cut in the side of the pipe, the O’lets are welded in place over the hole and then the additional length of pipe is attached to the outlet. Sometimes the run size is given as a possible range or consolidation. this means the outlet can be used on several different pipe sizes. for example, a 36-3 x 1 outlet could be used to branch 1″. pipe off of any run pipe from 3″ up through 36″.

Branch Fittings Types:

Weldolet Fittings:

Weldolet® is a registered name. Another often used name is Welding Outlet. Creative Piping Solutions designed and manufacture Weldolet Fittings to minimize stress concentrations and provide integral reinforcement. MSS-SP 97 welding outlet is the most popularly used branch connection fitting falling under the buttweld fittings family. Buttweld Outlets are available in a wide range of dimensions. It is well-suited for high-pressure weight applications. There are three pressure grade STD, XS, and Sch160 for the weldolet.

Buttweld Branch Outlet is contoured to match the curve on the headed pipe and beveled on the branch side to mate up with a beveled piece of the branch pipe. We are leading producers of Weldolet using ASME B16.11, B16.9, ASME B16.25, and EN Standards. The most popular purchase materials of Welding Outlets are A105 and A234. We are the topmost exporters of Class 3000 Long Weldolet in the UK and UAE.

Nipolet Pipe Fitting:

Nipolet is also known as nipple outlet. It is mostly used for valve installation and exhaust. ASME B16.11 Nipolets are manufactured in lengths ranging from 3.1/2 inches to 6.1/2 inches and for Sch 160, XS, and XXS schedules. ASTM A105 Nipolet Manufactured for Extra Strong and Double Extra Strong applications in Class 6000, Clase 3000. Available with male-socket weld or male threaded outlets.

Sockolet Fitting:

A MSS SP-97 sockolet has the same basic design as a Weldolet and threadolet where the major difference is that the branch pipe is connected to the run pipe, via the fitting, with a socket weld connection as per ASME B16.11. Sockolets belong to the “socket fittings” family and are also popularly known as socket weld outlets and are available in Class 3000, Class 6000, and Class 9000. ASTM A182 and A105 Sockolet are used for lower pressure applications, and smaller pipe diameters (as compared to Weldolets).

Threadolet Fittings:

MSS SP 97 Threadolet is also known as threaded outlet. ASME B16.11 Threadolet is a type of branch connection and it is threaded without welding. Thredolets are used for low-pressure 90-degree pipe branches. The threading is generally of the NPT type and conforms to the ASME B1.20.1 specification. A105 Threadolet is available in the size range of 1/2″ to 2″ and is welded over a hole either drilled or burned in the pipe. The pressure s usually Class 3000 and Class 6000.

Threaded Branch Outlet is contoured to match the curve of the header pipe and the branch side of the fitting has an NPS thread according to ASME B1.20.1. Normally, Thread Branch Outlet Fittings are used for NPS under 2″. Creative Piping Solutions is ISO certified supplier and exporter of Threadolet Fittings in the UK, UAE, and Australia.

Elbolet Fitting:

We are manufacturers of Elbolet Branch Fittings using ASME B16.9 and MSS SP-97 Standards. Elbolet (also known as elbow outlet) is used to provide branch connections on 90 or 180 degrees short radius elbows(seldom used) or long radius elbows(most common). Elbolets are available with socket weld/threaded connections or with butt weld connections in class 3000 or class 6000.
